core principles of sustainability as well as a strong track record in innovative design made modscape the perfect choice for the latest office complex at Melbourne Zoo
as the successful tenderer for a brand new facility to house both the administration and management teams at Melbourne’s world renown Zoo, our brief required an optimised thermal design that removed the need for air-conditioning and maximised the use of sustainable inputs at the same time as creating a contemporary, low-energy workspace
using 30 modules to createapproximately 1500sqm of space, the office complex was constructed in 3 stages over a 12 week period. each stage was installed in a day ensuring minimal disruption and impact not only on Zoo operations but also on the resident animals
aconvex shape to the main entry lends the facility a welcoming façade and gives way to a clear open reception area of approximately 180sqm. timberreclaimed from the Gippsland pier has been used for the 5m long reception desk as well as for the posts surrounding the main entry ramp
custom built joinery for workstations and offices, interactive display units for animal exhibits and the use of recycled/reconstituted/sustainable materials throughout combined to put the finishing touches on this beautiful, state-of-the-art workplace facility |
